15.04.010 Uniform Mechanical Code adopted.

The most recent edition of the Uniform Mechanical Code, published by the International Conference of Building Officials, adopted by the State of Alaska (13 AAC 50.020), is adopted by reference as the Mechanical Code of the City of Soldotna, except as amended in this chapter. (Ord. 691 § 1, 1999)

15.04.020 Uniform Mechanical Code Amendments.

(A) Section 108.1 is revised by the addition of a third paragraph which reads: Where the term Administrative Authority is used in this code the Administrative Authority shall be the Building Official of the City of Soldotna or his/her designee.
(B) Chapter 5 of the U.M.C. is revised by adding the following: “Section 510 General. The provisions of this section apply to installation of kitchen ventilation heat recovery equipment installed within the interior of the building.
1. Ceiling Penetrations. Any grease duct or hood penetrating a ceiling, regardless of whether the ceiling is rated, is considered concealed and must be enclosed within a rated duct enclosure constructed in accordance with Section 507.6;
2. Equipment Installations. Only fans associated with heat recovery devices serving Type I hoods may be located in the grease duct within a rated enclosure. This equipment must be specifically listed for kitchen ventilation application, or the equipment housing must maintain the integrity of the externally welded and liquid tight duct to the entrance of, and the exit from, the exhaust fan or heat recovery element. Provisions must be made for access to the equipment and internal components of devices containing fans or hear recovery elements for proper maintenance and cleaning. Duct access doors must comply with Section 507. Access Doors to enclosures must comply with Section 507.7.;
3. Duct and Equipment Enclosure. A grease duct enclosure may be enlarged to enclose equipment or may connect to the equipment housing if the equipment housing meets the rating of the grease duct enclosure. The duct may run exposed within the rated equipment enclosure to the entrance of, and the exit from, the equipment that complies with (3) of this section.;
4. Fire Dampers. Other associated ductwork located within a grease duct enclosure constructed as described in (3) of this section must have a fire damper where penetrations of the enclosure occur; and
5. Exhaust Outlets. The grease duct shall terminate above the roof in accordance with Section 507.6 and 507.11. A grease duct enclosure that stops at the rated equipment enclosure must be vented to the exterior as if the rated equipment enclosure were a continuation of the duct enclosure”;
(C) Section 702.3 of the U.M.C. first sentence, is revised to read:
“Combustion-air openings must be covered with corrosion resistant screen of 1/2 inch (13 mm) mesh, except as provided in Section 704.3;

(D) Chapter 10 of the U.M.C. is revised by the deletion of sections 1026-1029;
(E) Chapter 13 of the U.M.C. is revised by the deletion of section 1305. (Ord. 691 § 1, 1999)
